PCG Invited to Join CAPA’s Continuing Education Program
For more than two decades, Pawnshop Consulting Group has been privileged to work with and support the California Pawnbrokers Association and members of California’s pawn community.
This year, CAPA has invited Jerry Whitehead, Founder & Senior Strategic Advisor of Pawnshop Consulting Group, LLC, to present a live continuing-education program during the association’s milestone 70th Annual Convention & Trade Show.
The 90-minute program, White Glove Pawn Service: Turning Every Customer Interaction Into a Long-Term Relationship, is built specifically around one of the most valuable assets in every pawn operation: the customer relationship.
Don’t just process customers. Build clients.
Why White Glove Pawn Service?
A pawnshop employee is much more than the person standing behind the counter. During the course of a single day, that employee may serve as a lender, buyer, salesperson, negotiator, problem solver, educator and customer-service representative.
Every one of those interactions represents the store’s brand, reputation and culture.
PCG believes exceptional employees go one step further: they take ownership of the customer relationship. The objective of White Glove Pawn Service is to help frontline employees become trusted store ambassadors who deliver professional, respectful and highly personalized service.
What Will Attendees Take Back to Their Stores?
We’re not going to give away Jerry’s entire presentation here. But California pawnbrokers attending the program can expect practical takeaways covering some of the most important customer-facing moments inside a pawnshop.
Move beyond processing transactions and create clients who know, trust and return to your team.
Acknowledgment, eye contact, professional greetings, body language and making customers feel valued immediately.
Ask better questions, understand what the customer actually needs and explain options clearly.
Understand the customer’s objective before immediately jumping to a loan number.
Negotiate professionally, protect the business and preserve the relationship—even when the answer is no.
Know your customers, understand their preferences, follow up appropriately and become their preferred person in the store.
Use discovery, product knowledge, benefits and professional presentation to help customers find what they actually want.
Remain professional, listen before reacting, de-escalate frustration and protect the customer relationship.
Recognize that every interaction can become a review, referral, social-media discussion or long-term customer relationship.
The PCG White Glove Service Standard
The program brings the concepts together around a straightforward standard that employees can take back to their stores:
ACKNOWLEDGE ★ ASK ★ LISTEN ★ QUALIFY ★ EDUCATE
SOLVE ★ PERSONALIZE ★ OWN ★ FOLLOW THROUGH ★ INVITE THEM BACK
Transactions Create Revenue ★ Relationships Create Businesses
The most successful pawn operations do more than make loans, buy merchandise and sell products. They create relationships.
Employees who learn to take ownership of those relationships become more than salespeople or lending associates. They become trusted advisors, store ambassadors and customer advocates.
Treat people well. Listen carefully. Communicate professionally. Solve problems. Build trust. Earn the next transaction.
From Pawn Expo to Dixie to CAPA
2026 has been a busy year on the pawn-industry education stage for Jerry Whitehead and Pawnshop Consulting Group.
Earlier this summer, Jerry presented “Pawn Shop Financial Metrics on Steroids” at the National Pawnbrokers Association’s Pawn Expo in Las Vegas, taking a deep dive into the financial metrics and performance indicators that drive successful pawn operations.
More recently, PCG took the stage at the Dixie Pawnbrokers Convention for “Best of the Best,” a high-level look at what separates exceptional pawn operations from the rest—from service culture and customer experience to accountability, management, digital presence and execution.
Now the next stop is San Diego, where Jerry has been invited by the California Pawnbrokers Association to bring the focus directly to the front line with “White Glove Pawn Service” as part of CAPA’s continuing-education program at its landmark 70th Annual Convention & Trade Show.
Different audiences. Different subjects. One common objective:
Help pawnbrokers, managers and employees build stronger, more professional and more profitable pawn businesses.
Continuing Education for California Pawnbrokers
California’s continuing-education requirements for pawnbroker license renewal took effect in 2026, requiring licensees to complete approved continuing education as part of the renewal process.
CAPA’s 70th Annual Convention & Trade Show gives California’s pawn community an opportunity to combine professional education with association programming, industry networking, exhibitors and the relationships that have helped strengthen California pawn for seven decades.
Jerry’s White Glove Pawn Service session is scheduled for Saturday, October 3, from 2:30–4:00 PM at the Sheraton San Diego Resort.
